Next Friday we will start a rare thing indeed, Jane Austen's first written—but last released—novel: Northanger Abbey.

It's a parody of a very specific kind of book that was popular when Austen was in her teens and twenties. You'll be a lot happier with me if you take a gander at a couple of videos:

Why, The Mysteries of Udolpho (as seen in the Gothy thumbnail) by Mrs. Ann Radcliffe, of course!

Check out the videos and you'll be well on your way to REALLY enjoying Northanger Abbey next week. If you feel like being an overachiever, you could even listen to the whole book.
